Endorsements of ACPAC are not based on party affiliation, ethnicity, national origin, or race but based purely on the critical issues of each election and the roles to be played by candidates. ACPAC uses its resources to support endorsed candidates by mobilizing voting blocs through publicity in the media and grassroots efforts among organizations and sub-groups within the community.
For the 2015 Houston Mayoral elections, the African Coalition PAC interviewed (alphabetically):
While we were very impressed by the credentials of all the candidates, after a thourough evaluation of each candidate interviewed, ACPAC endorsed Sylvester Turner as the best candidate to be Mayor of Houston - 2016. This decision is based on the fact that:
He is a veteran Texas State Legislator with a proven track record of accomplishments, and he recognizes the natural relationship of the city of Houston with its surrounding suburbs – cities and counties.
He has an inclusive agenda that is welcoming to people of all nationalities. He understands the international business climate and how to work with international communities to build a better Houston, while growing existing Houston’s small business sector.
In spite of his Harvard Law School background, he is not elitist but a brass-tacks leader who will build on his record of working across political affiliations and with the diverse community groups of Houston. This we believe, is the making of the “future people’s Mayor” of Houston.
Please, help us congratulate Sylvester Turner on this endorsement!
